The School of Design is a special place and is best experienced in person. We welcome the opportunity to meet with you and encourage you to visit us as part of your application. Plan your visit to the School of Design to meet members of our community, talk to current students, and tour our facilities. While you’re here, you can also take a general campus tour or attend an information session offered by the Office of Admission. You can even learn firsthand what life on campus is like by participating in an overnight weekend stay.
Before you come, check out CMU’s Student Experience for more information about life on campus, and this overview of what’s happening in Pittsburgh to get a sense of where the city is headed. Be sure to leave time in your schedule to visit local design attractions like The Warhol, the Carnegie Museum of Art, Fallingwater, and the Mattress Factory.
Undergraduate Program Visits
During the academic year, we offers daily studio tours guided by a current student, and periodic Q&A sessions for prospective undergraduate students and their families. For those who are interested in a particular course or aspect of our programs, we can also arrange classroom visits hosted by current students. Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate drop-in visitors, so please plan ahead! Learn more about visits for prospective undergrads, then reserve your place in a tour of the School or Q&A session by emailing us.
Graduate Program Visits
The March 23rd Graduate Program Visitor's Day has been canceled.
We host visitor days for prospective graduate students two times a year. Visitor days are planned and scheduled according to the best opportunities for you to learn more about the work taking place here, and to interact with our core faculty and current students. To get started on planning your visit and to reserve your place, see the visitor information pages for the Master’s Programs and/or Doctoral Programs.
