School of Design’s Jane Ditmore Retiring After 39 Years at CMU

The School of Design is both thrilled and saddened with the news that after 39 years of service at Carnegie Mellon University, Receptionist Jane Ditmore will be retiring in July. Thrilled that Jane will be going on to enjoy her retirement, saddened because we’re not sure how the School of Design will function without her.

School of Design Awards for Spring 2021

The School of Design is proud to annouce all of the winners of our 2020-2021 Design Awards. These awards were announced today during our Awards Show as part of Design Week from Spring 2021. The School of Design wants to congratulate all of our students for these awards and all of the hard work they put in during this school year.

Alumnus Nadeem Haidary on “Rethinking Users”

Nadeem Haidary, an Industrial Design alumnus from Carnegie Mellon University's School of Design (BA '09), recently released "Rethinking Users" from BIS Publishers. "Rethinking Users," designed and illustrated by Haidary, is a book and toolkit written by design researchers Mike Youngblood and Ben Chesluk. It outlines an approach the authors call "user ecosystem thinking."

Experiential Futures at the World Economic Forum

On April 6th – 8th, the World Economic Forum (WEF) hosted its first ever Global Technology Governance Summit (GTGS), bringing thousands of leading technologists, academics, businesspeople, policymakers and political representatives together to discuss the sprawling array of fast-moving challenges in this space. Associate Professor Stuart Candy and his Experiential Futures class were virtually on hand to present work they did as part of a project where they created "artifacts of the future."
