Mary Kay Johnsen Retiring

Mary Kay Johnsen, who served for many years as the Design Librarian and keeper of the rare books, is retiring after 38 years. The School of Design celebrates and thanks Mary Kay for her years of service.

Design Alumni Develop Creative Coding Tool

Cameron Burgess and Maayan Albert, recent alumni of Carnegie Mellon University's School of Design (BDes '19), have developed "Stamper," a new tool for writing code that is inspired by how designers work. Unlike traditional code editors, Stamper resembles Artboard-Oriented design tools like Adobe Illustrator, Sketch App, and Figma.

Rapidly Evolving - Our Response Project

During the week after finals (May 8-15, 2020), the Carnegie Mellon University School of Design came together and created "Rapidly Evolving," a response to the lockdown. The Students, Faculty and Staff did what they do best: they made. They made for and with one another. They made to help fill the gap, to help bring back some of that closeness lost by coronavirus.

The School of Design Virtual Celebration 2020

On Sunday, May 17th, after Carnegie Mellon University holds its Virtual Conferral of Degrees, the School of Design will be holding it's own Graduation Send-Off at 11am. Join us for some special messages from the Head of School and Program Directors, and student speakers.
