In October 2009, Carnegie Mellon’s School of Design will be celebrating the 75th anniversary of the Industrial Design program with a series of events held on campus during homecoming weekend, October 30-31 2009.
Known as Carnegie Tech in 1934, our program was the first degree-granting Industrial Design program in the United States. Instrumental in founding our program were early Industrial Design pioneers Donald Dohner, Alexander Kostellow, and Robert Lepper. Today, our program continues their innovative vision and we continue to receive international recognition for excellence in industrial design education. ![]() The senior design studio at Carnegie Mellon As we prepare for our 75th anniversary celebration, we are working on a visual/physical timeline of people and work that have shaped this program over the decades. We hope we can include your work! We invite our alumni, faculty, and friends of our Industrial Design program to share with us your photos, original works, projects, and stories. We hope you will also share with us your professional career paths, prominent projects you've worked on, and how your education at Carnegie Mellon has prepared you for where you are today. If you have materials that you can share with us, please send them as soon as you can—either the original work, which of course we will handle extremely carefully, or high resolution images of your work. Additionally, at the event in October, we invite you to dust off and bring along your old student projects and bring examples of the work you've done since graduation.
