Carissa Vivirito (BFA 2000) writes You Can’t Get There From Here
School of Design alumna Carissa Vivirito has self-published a book about the Internet called You Can’t Get There From Here: Demystifying the Internet so you can be the Master of your online Universe.

The book cover features Vivirito’s hand-drawn illustrations

With humor (and hand-drawn illustrations), the book discusses how the Internet and World Wide Web developed, and tips and explanations on how to tackle web projects. Its goal for readers is “leaving you empowered to tackle any Internet project that comes your way.”
From its website, concepts covered in the book include:
  • How traditional stores are, and are not like online ecommerce sites.
  • How your kitchen organization can teach you to be an expert Web site strategist.
  • How road maps & directions can be your model for an online marketing approach.
  • How to write for the Web.
  • How your high school social structure of cliques are an eerily accurate analogy of how you are perceived on the Web.
  • How to look at Web sites the way search engines like Google & Yahoo see them.
  • How your Web site project should be managed like an addition to your home.
The book is available at http://www.youcantgetthere.com/.
