Call for Papers

We are currently accepting original presentations of commercial and social case studies, academic projects, and other explorations that touch on the definition, processes, and implementation of service design. Submissions will be judged on appropriateness, originality, and craft.

Submission can be in the form of a paper or a presentation.

Service Design Themes

While we are open to all papers and presentations related to service design, we are particularly interested in submission that focus on the following:

  • How technology can aide in the creation of innovative services
  • How services drive the need for new technology
  • Role of design language and design aesthetics in services
  • Services that encourage ecologically sustainable behavior
  • Cultural challenges and initiatives surrounding the design of services in the developing world
  • User-centered business strategies as they relate to service design
  • How service design is pushing innovation in the field of industrial design

Presentation Length

Each Emergence presentation will last 30 minutes with a 15 minute q+a session.

    (please limit to 150 words)

    (If submitting a paper, it should be a PDF not longer than four pages, including references, appendices, and figures. Please use our formatted template.)
